Rover + Kin
What could be better than beautifully designed jewelry? Jewelry that is sustainably made and empowers women of course! Rover & Kin is a pioneer on both fronts, working to build a more equitable ecosystem of design with the purpose for the people and the planet.
Founded by Wen-Yan King and her husband, this AAPI proudly-owned business aims to bring a mix of timeless and modern designed jewelry from the hands of artisans in India to your jewelry box.
Rover & Kin began as a small fair trade shop in Berkeley, California that curated handcrafted goods from across the globe. Wen's experience working closely with artisans showed her that our global economy can be used as a source for good. While celebrating artisan skills, Rover & Kin preserves traditional craftsmanship while elevating designs to modern trends.

Design with purpose
Rover & Kin operates as a social enterprise which means they are conscious of the impact their business has on society, individuals, and the environment. Rover & Kin believes that change begins when people and the planet are valued over profits.
Women are one of the most marginalized groups in lower-income areas around the world and it is often difficult to find work to support a family. As a verified member of the Fair Trade Federation, Rover & Kin ensures that the women artisans they work with are guaranteed safe and fair working conditions while making timeless and ethical jewelry and accessories. Rover & Kin takes their responsibility to artisan partners seriously by investing in the communities they live in. For example, the small farming village in Haryana home to the hand casting group is the recipient of a water conservation program, vocational training for the wider community, micro-lending, and health insurance for all artisans.
These methods also extend to making efforts to sustainable practices that promote a positive environmental impact. Their use of upcycled brass means materials are often upcycled from other industries and as brass can be melted and reshaped, all scraps are endlessly recycled to create new jewelry pieces. In addition, the Rover & Kin Team has spent years perfecting a clean and durable plating process to ensure each of their brass pieces will stay beautiful for years to come.
Rover & Kin is consistently looking for new ways to reduce their environmental impact. Each jewelry piece is packaged in kraft paper boxes to be used as storage or recycled. The corn starch bag used for the more delicate pieces may be backyard composted. In 2021, Rover & Kin started a partnership with Grow Ahead, a crowdfunded reforestation non-profit. This exemplifies their dedication to taking responsibility for their emissions to become carbon neutral by 2022.
