Wishbone Design Studio

Wishbone aims to spread joy, creativity, and independence. The first Wishbone bike was made in an apartment bathroom in New York City by Richard Latham. He was inspired to make something that would give his son more freedom and independence, while also being made to last and soft on the planet. The bike was soon in high-demand and by the time the family returned to their home in New Zealand, they had a growing business on their hands. Flash forward to today and Wishbone is a staple in households all across the globe!

As much as we love to see kiddos grow, we don't quite love the path of broken and discarded toys that they leave behind. Wishbone has reimagined the function of children's toys, designing them to be loved and repaired, passed down, and loved again. Their thoughtfully-made bikes, trikes, wagons, and rockers are created to grow with children, providing new challenges at every stage of development for long-lasting engagement. All of the fun with none of the waste!

Play more, waste less.

The founders of Wishbone are proudly anti-consumption and they share this vision of the world through their unique circular design strategy. Their business model prioritizes minimal environmental impact and focuses on the longevity of product life. Each product is created to grow with children, carrying them through various activities and adventures as they develop. The fresh product designs are a stark contrast to traditional bike offerings on the market. Each cruiser, whether a bike, a walker or a wagon, is created in a way that allows for easy repair. With replaceable parts and simple silhouettes, assembling and altering one's bike is a snap! The company places a huge emphasis on the importance of fixing a bike instead of buying a new one. A company that tries to discourage people from buying more of their products because they ‚believe in a life of sufficiency not excess. Refreshing, right? Plus, Wishbone chooses their materials with extreme care and attention to our planet. From bike frames made out of sustainably harvested wood and recycled plastic and carpet (!) to recycled leather bike bags and silicone grips, each product is built to last, withstanding even the most rambunctious kiddo! Wishbone makes a huge effort to spread environmental awareness to families that purchase their bikes through their partnerships with nonprofits like WWF and their focus on endangered species. Special bike designs and accessories pay homage to particular threatened species and come equipped with resources and info about their eco-stories.
